Bareilly: A large-scale plantation drive was organized across Bareilly district on World Environment Day under the nationwide ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ (One Tree in Mother’s Name) campaign, promoting environmental conservation and public participation in creating a greener future.
The programme was held as part of the extensive public outreach initiatives being conducted across Uttar Pradesh from June 5 to June 21, 2026, to mark the completion of 12 years of the Central Government, highlighting achievements in development, service, good governance and public welfare.
District Magistrate Avinash Singh inaugurated the plantation campaign by planting a peepal sapling at the Kendriya Vidyalaya Railway Ground near the Izzatnagar railway crossing. Extending World Environment Day greetings to citizens, he urged people to plant at least one tree and actively contribute to environmental protection. He emphasized that trees play a crucial role in providing clean air, conserving water, enhancing biodiversity and maintaining ecological balance. He also administered an environmental conservation pledge to those present.
Speaking on the occasion, Divisional Forest Officer Diksha Bhandari highlighted the Uttar Pradesh Government’s ambitious afforestation programme for 2026-27. She informed that 35 crore saplings are scheduled to be planted across the state. In Bareilly district alone, a total of 35.99 lakh saplings will be planted in July 2026, including two lakh by the Forest Department and 33.99 lakh by 26 other departments. As part of the World Environment Day activities, nearly 7.80 lakh saplings were planted across the district by the Forest Department and various government agencies.
District Panchayat Chairperson Rashmi Patel, senior social worker Anil Saxena, Chief Development Officer Devyani, and BJP District President Sompal Sharma also participated in the plantation drive. Poet Ritesh Kumar Sahani recited his poem “Ek Ped Sau Putra Samaan” (One Tree Equals a Hundred Sons), highlighting the importance of trees in human life.

The event also featured an environmental awareness rally involving students from Surajmukhi Saraswati Vidya Mandir, Kendriya Vidyalaya Bareilly, several other educational institutions, non-governmental organizations and personnel of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP). Schoolchildren, dressed in colourful costumes and carrying environmental messages, spread awareness about the conservation of nature and natural resources.
Plantation activities were simultaneously conducted across all tehsils, development blocks, municipal bodies and gram panchayats of the district. At the conclusion of the programme, DFO Diksha Bhandari presented saplings to guests as a symbol of commitment towards environmental stewardship.
Several forest officials, environmental experts, ITBP officers and local stakeholders were present during the event, which reinforced the message that collective public participation is essential for ensuring a greener, cleaner and more sustainable future.
